The FTA sat down with nine other BRICS tax authorities in New Delhi; no rule for UAE companies changed.

Gulf News and Emirates 24|7, both reporting on 1 October 2026, say the Federal Tax Authority joined the BRICS Tax Experts and Tax Heads Meeting 2026 in New Delhi. Both accounts describe a forum for cooperation and knowledge exchange. Neither reports a new rule, deadline or filing requirement coming out of it.

What happened

On 1 October 2026, Gulf News ("UAE joins BRICS tax talks on technology and cooperation") and Emirates 24|7, carrying a WAM wire report, both said the UAE's Federal Tax Authority (FTA) took part in the BRICS Tax Experts and Tax Heads Meeting 2026 in New Delhi, India. The meeting brought together heads of tax authorities and experts from ten BRICS tax administrations and was hosted by India's Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) under its Ministry of Finance. The UAE delegation was led by Abdulaziz Al Mulla, Director General of the FTA, with Saida Kaddoumi Osman, Policy Adviser at the Authority, and Meera Qassim, International Relations Senior Analyst. Both reports say technology, tax administration and human resources were the main themes discussed, and both quote Al Mulla describing the UAE's participation as an opportunity to exchange knowledge, share best practice and strengthen cooperation with other tax administrations.

What it is not

Neither report describes an agreement, protocol, resolution or action item produced by the meeting. There is no mention in either account of a new UAE tax law, a new FTA circular or guidance, a new filing requirement, or a deadline tied to this meeting. The BRICS Tax Experts and Tax Heads forum, as both outlets describe it, is a venue for exchanging practice between tax administrations. It has no rule-making authority over UAE tax law on its own.

What it means for a UAE company or owner

Nothing to action. This is the FTA attending a multilateral meeting, not a change to corporate tax, VAT, the Domestic Minimum Top-up Tax or e-invoicing, all of which continue on their existing timelines regardless of this meeting.

Worth watching rather than acting on: if anything discussed here (technology standards, data or information exchange between tax administrations) eventually becomes a UAE rule, it would arrive later as its own Cabinet Decision or FTA circular, not as a consequence of this meeting itself.

Both reports are built on the same WAM wire account of the meeting and Authority remarks; Duon has no commercial relationship with either outlet or the Federal Tax Authority and has not independently verified any detail beyond what both report.
